Almost everyone shopping for a scan assumes the crew and the scanner are the expensive part. A real Florida public contract shows the opposite, clearly enough to change how you read every proposal you receive.

Two practical consequences. First, a proposal that looks cheap on field time may not be cheap at all — check what extraction is included. Second, the fastest way to control a scanning budget is to be precise about what you need extracted, because that is the line that dominates the total. A registered point cloud with no extraction is a genuinely different product, at a genuinely different price.

How Building Type Changes the Work
Scan stations are what you are really buying, and they follow walls, corners, corridors and equipment — not floor area. A 50,000 sq ft open warehouse and a 50,000 sq ft hospital wing are not comparable jobs, which is exactly why a per-square-foot rate misleads. Here is what changes across building types:

Define scope precisely upfront
Clearly specify which areas, floors, and spaces need scanning. Scanning "the whole building" when you only need the 3rd floor mechanical room costs 5-10x more than a targeted scan scope.
Choose the right LOD
Don't over-specify LOD. If you need the model for space planning and basic coordination, LOD 200 is sufficient. LOD 400 is only needed for fabrication. Clear and prepare the space
